It was evident she just wanted someone to connect with on a platonic level, and keeping the interactions strictly "on the radio" was the only way to ensure that. The ending was not what we expected, and it was a letdown to not see Delilah, but it was a proper ending for this story and game. The devs noted that the real treat was in the dialogues you unlock as a result of your choices and that this was probably too subtle of a move for most to notice, making it seem more linear. But realistically, one summer in the woods may not change a situation like his.
